The Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF) has achieved a record-breaking milestone in the clean energy movement in Pemba Island. By successfully distributing over 800 gas cylinders to every household in Kisiwa Panza, we have ignited a powerful shift toward sustainable, safe, and clean cooking solutions.

In the first three years of its existence, MIF has lived its mission of inspiring communities towards sustainable action and provide strategic leadership through coordinated and concerted efforts to improve education, health and economic status of women and youth. MIF has developed a wide network of implementing partners across the three areas of focus (education, socio-economic empowerment and health). A total of 9 MOUs have been entered with local and international partners attracting a total of more than TZS 2 billion in the reference period.

Through its innovative vocational education program, the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation (MIF) is restoring hope and unlocking the potential of marginalized youth particularly young women, orphans, and those from low-income or single-parent households.

Our goal is to provide comprehensive care, treatment, and psychosocial support to address mental health challenges among women and youth in Zanzibar. To achieve this, we adopt a multifaceted approach, focusing on strategic networking and partnerships to optimize resources and prevent duplication. Education Program

Our education program is central to our commitment to fostering positive change. We focus on enhancing the quality of primary and secondary education and improving student performance. Connected to our economic empowerment initiative, we emphasize vocational education to equip youth with technical skills in areas such as tailoring, food production, mechanics, agribusiness, information and communication technology (ICT), automobile mechanics, and domestic electricity, among others.
Dr. Faisal H. Issa
Board Member
Dr. Faisal H. Issa who is a Board member of the Mwanamke Initiatives Foundation is at present a Senior Lecturer in Public Management at Mzumbe University. With an Advanced Diploma in Public Administration, an MBA, and a Ph.D. in Public Management, he has accumulated through practical work experience, research and training, leadership capabilities, and the right adaptive capacity for managing diverse tasks and responsibilities at all levels of management at central, local government and at an institutional level.
Prof. Mohammed Hafidh Khalfan
Board Member
Prof Mohammed Hafidh Khalfan is currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Zanzibar Presidential Delivery Bureau (PDB) since January 02, 2024. He has a strong background as an academician, a consultant, a mentor as well as a researcher.
Bi. Mgeni Hassan
Board Member
2010 became a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives and was elected as Chairperson of The House of Representatives 2010 and Chairperson of the women caucus in the Zanzibar House of Representatives 2010. She became the first women member to table a private motion on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and moved for amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act and evidence law which resulted in the amendment of the Criminal Procedure Act and Evidence Act and further increased the number of one-stop center for GBV cases in every district and campaign on GBV spearheaded by the Government. of the said laws.
